Does a good intention also earn a reward?

A good intention alone carries merit, and Allah rewards for it.

Quranic Answer

In the Holy Quran, the concept of intention and its importance is clearly stated. Intention is essentially a movement in the heart of a person that defines the real effect of their actions. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 225, it states: 'Allah hears your speech, but your hearts are in that which you listen.' This means that Allah gives more importance to people's intentions and inner thoughts than to their outward appearances. Indeed, good intentions in Islam are rewarded, even if they do not result in action. Islamic traditions tell us that if someone intends to perform a good deed but cannot carry it out for any reason, Allah rewards them for that good intention. This principle is emphasized in Surah An-Najm, verse 39, where it says, 'And that man will have nothing but what he strives for.' Thus, it can be concluded that a good intention alone holds the potential for reward and merit. The Holy Quran teaches us that Allah is aware of our hearts and intentions, and accordingly, our good intentions draw us closer to Him. Therefore, encouragement toward good intentions and efforts to perform righteous acts is a fundamental principle in our faithful lives.
