How can we know we are on the path of God?

To determine if we are on the path of God, our intentions, commitment to prayer, and companionship with righteous individuals are crucial.

Quranic Answer

To understand whether we are on the path of God, the first and most important consideration is to examine our intentions. The Quran emphasizes the significance of faith and intentions in human life. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 225, it states, 'Allah knows what is before them'. Hence, having a pure intention in our actions is essential. If our intentions are sincere and everything we do is for the pleasure of God, we can confidently say we are on the path of God. Additionally, one of the signs of being on the path is adherence to prayer and other obligations. In Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 9, it mentions, 'And they are steadfast in their prayers', emphasizing the need for a continuous connection with God. Moreover, associating with righteous and good individuals can also indicate the correctness of our path. It is stated in Surah An-Nisa, verse 69, 'And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be with those whom Allah has bestowed favor upon', highlighting that companionship with righteous people and striving in the way of God brings us closer to being better. Generally, if we pay attention to our intentions, obligations, and are around righteous individuals, we can confidently say we are on the path of God.
