How to be saved from the whispers of Satan?

One day, a righteous man was trying to stay away from the whispers of Satan. He would recall the verses of the Quran and every day fortified his heart against temptations by reciting prayers and remembrance. One day while speaking with a friend, he said: 'Every time I feel Satan getting closer to me, I tell him through the remembrance of Allah and prayers that I cannot fall for his tricks.' His friend, hearing this, replied: 'That is truly wonderful; strengthening your connection with God is the best way to save yourself from temptations.'
