Intentions behind actions are more important than their appearance since God is aware of people's inner selves.
In the Holy Quran, there is significant emphasis on the intention and the inner essence of actions. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 225, Allah states: 'Allah is All-Aware of what is in the hearts.' This verse underlines that God pays attention to the intentions of people, which is more important than the outward appearance of their actions. The results of deeds fundamentally depend on the individual's intentions. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also mentioned in a famous hadith: 'Actions are judged by intentions.' Thus, if a person undertakes a deed but lacks sincere intention, that deed will not bear fruit in terms of reward. For instance, if someone performs a good deed merely for showing off, they will not receive any reward for that act. Hence, sincerity of intention and its impact must be a focus in all actions. In Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 60, Allah says: 'And turn to Allah in repentance with sincere intention.' Therefore, intention holds a deeper significance and value beyond the superficiality of actions, as Allah is aware of the hearts and the real intentions behind them. Consequently, we must always pay attention to our intentions and strive to make them pure and for Allah's pleasure.
Allah does not impose blame upon you for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He imposes blame upon you for that which your hearts have earned. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Forbearing.
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
One day, a young man named Ahmad was reflecting on his actions and wondering if what he did was sincere and for the sake of Allah. He recalled the verses of the Quran and decided to purify his intentions, choosing to act solely for God's sake. With this change of intention, he felt a greater sense of peace, and his relationship with others also improved.
