How can we get closer to God?

Getting closer to God is possible through faith, prayer, and good deeds.

Quranic Answer

Getting closer to God is achievable through faith, good deeds, and prayer. In the Holy Quran, Allah invites us to draw near to Him, saying: 'And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls upon Me' (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 186). This indicates that God is near and responds to the prayers of His servants. Therefore, we should approach God with faith and pure intention. Additionally, in Surah Al-Maidah, verse 35, it says: 'O you who have believed, fear Allah and seek the means of access to Him and strive in His cause that you may succeed.' This emphasizes the significance of piety and seeking means to get closer to God. Moreover, fulfilling obligations and avoiding prohibitions are also key ways to draw closer to Him. Allah promises in Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 69: 'And those who strive for Us, We will surely guide them to Our ways,' illustrating that those who strive in the path of God are led to His paths. Alongside this, love and affection for God and His creation are vital methods for drawing near to Him; for Allah draws closer to those who love and care for His servants. Thus, combining prayer, good deeds, piety, and love for God and others can be effective ways to become closer to God.
