To discern this path, we must pay attention to two categories of signs: external signs (divine commands and guidance) and internal signs (spiritual and heartfelt changes and effects). First and foremost, it's crucial to understand that the foundation of the divine path is "Tawhid" (the Oneness of God) and "Submission" (Islam) to the singular will of the Almighty. This means that a person must acknowledge that there is only one Creator and Sustainer, and all existence is submissive to Him. The very first step on the divine path is this heartfelt belief, which then translates into action. The Quran, in the opening verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, describes the characteristics of those who are guided. Allah states in Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 2 to 5: "This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah - Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided for them. And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]. Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful." Five times a day, it separates individuals from daily routines, bringing them back to the remembrance of Allah and the noble purpose of creation. Establishing prayer is not just about performing physical movements; rather, with full presence of heart and attention, it refines the human soul, restrains it from indecency and evil, and bestows upon it tranquility and spiritual strength. The divine path is one where prayer holds a central position, recognized not merely as an obligation but as a spiritual necessity and a ladder for ascent. **Spending from what Allah has Provided (Infaq):** This signifies detachment from material attachments and reaching a stage of generosity and giving, where an individual views their wealth as a trust from Allah and expends it in His way and for helping those in need. Spending in charity purifies the soul, cleanses the heart from stinginess and greed, and steers one towards goodness and benevolence. Giving and helping others are among the most prominent signs of the divine path, for Allah Himself is the Most Generous and Merciful, and He calls His servants to embody these attributes. **Belief in Previous Books and Prophets, and Certainty in the Hereafter:** These beliefs illuminate the path for humanity. The conviction that Allah has always sent guides and that this guidance has continued from Adam to the Seal of the Prophets (Prophet Muhammad) assures humanity that they are not in darkness. Certainty in the Hereafter also directs human actions; one knows that every deed, whether good or bad, will have its reward or punishment in another abode. This certainty prevents indifference towards one's actions and steers one towards doing good and avoiding evil. Furthermore, the Quran, in Surah Al-Asr, presents a comprehensive criterion for salvation and avoiding loss: "By time, Indeed, mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience." One who possesses Taqwa is constantly mindful of their actions and words, so as not to transgress divine limits. This sense of responsibility guides them towards purity and righteousness. 4. **Inclination towards Good and Aversion to Evil:** The heart on the divine path naturally gravitates towards good and detests evil. This innate inclination is strengthened, leading one to perform righteous deeds and avoid sins. 5. **Positive Character Transformation:** The divine path leads to moral improvement. Qualities such as truthfulness, trustworthiness, justice, humility, kindness, forgiveness, patience, and gratitude are strengthened within the individual. Their interactions with others become more humane and just. **How to Assess These Signs in Oneself?** * **Self-Awareness and Reflection:** Continuously evaluate your actions, intentions, and reactions. Is your primary goal in your endeavors the pleasure of Allah? * **Consultation with Scholars and Experienced Individuals:** Seek guidance from those who have experience on this path and whose knowledge is based on the Quran and Sunnah. * **Supplication (Du'a) and Seeking Closeness (Tawassul):** Ask Allah to keep you steadfast on the path of truth and to reveal its signs to you. * **Perseverance and Consistency:** The divine path requires perseverance. Even if you falter, do not despair, but return to Allah. Repentance and returning are themselves part of this journey.
