How to combat spiritual laziness?

Combating spiritual laziness requires effort, reliance on God, and persistence in righteous actions.

Quranic Answer

Spiritual laziness is a significant challenge that many people face. The Holy Quran emphasizes the importance of activity and striving in the path of God. For instance, in Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 69, it states: 'And those who strive for Us, We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.' This verse promises that those who strive in the way of Allah will be guided. Therefore, one way to combat spiritual laziness is to make an effort to draw closer to God and follow the prescribed duties of religion. Additionally, the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are noteworthy in this regard. He said: 'The best of deeds is that which is done consistently, even if it is small.' This highlights that the quantity of action is not as important as the consistency in performing it. When a person realizes that they should focus on pleasing God and strive to achieve that, their perception of laziness changes. Furthermore, studying the Quran and reflecting on its verses can provide motivation and invigorate the spirit. In Surah Al-Imran, verse 139, believers are encouraged not to grieve or be sad, and ultimately to place their trust in Allah. The remembrance of God refreshes the soul and inspires a person to engage in good deeds. Therefore, combating spiritual laziness requires effort, reliance on God, and persistence in righteous actions.
