Do negative words affect a person's sustenance?

Negative words can affect a person's sustenance, while a positive approach in life may attract blessings.

Quranic Answer

In the Holy Quran, the significance of speech and human words is emphasized. In fact, a person's words shape their thoughts and beliefs. Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 11 states: "O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them." This verse reminds us that mocking one another can lead to negative consequences. Additionally, Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 46 shows that those who speak with malice may suffer in their sustenance and blessings: "And We certainly sent [messengers] to nations before you, and We seized them with hardship and adversity that perhaps they might humble themselves." Thus, it can be concluded that negative words and behaviors impact not just one’s spiritual life, but may also influence our sustenance and blessings. Therefore, it is recommended for people to engage in positive thinking and speak kind words to attract more blessings. Surah Az-Zumar, verse 53 reminds us: "Say, 'O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the Earth of Allah is spacious.'" This verse indicates that individuals should focus on piety and goodness to be recipients of divine sustenance.
