Does negative speech affect a person's sustenance?

Positive speech can have a beneficial impact on a person's sustenance and bring more blessings to their life, while negative words may adversely affect their sustenance.

Quranic Answer

The Holy Quran addresses the impact of speech and words on a person's life and sustenance. In Surah Al-Mulk, verse 17, Allah states, "Is he who guards against the torment of the Day of Judgment like he who does not?" This verse reminds us of the significance of our words and actions in the world. Furthermore, in Surah An-Nisa, verse 79, Allah says, "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." Thus, when positive and constructive speech is made, it not only has a positive impact on an individual’s spiritual life but can also increase their blessings and sustenance. On the other hand, negative and pessimistic speech not only affects a person's spirit but can also indirectly create obstacles to their sustenance. For instance, when a person is constantly negative and pessimistic about their future, this mindset can diminish their positive efforts and consequently drive away blessings and sustenance. Indeed, the Quran advocates for cultivating our tongues in positivity and good morals while refraining from negative words. Given these points, it can be concluded that our words and thoughts significantly affect our sustenance and life.
