The Quran emphasizes human responsibility in protecting the environment and calls on us to wisely use natural resources.
The Holy Quran, as the divine book, not only addresses human spirituality and social ethics but also pays special attention to the world and the environment. Various verses in the Quran emphasize that humans bear the responsibility of caring for their Creator and His creations. In Surah Al-An'am, verse 38, Allah says, 'And there is no creature on earth nor a bird that flies with its wings but that they are communities like you.' This verse clearly indicates that humans are responsible for utilizing the land and its resources wisely. This responsibility entails protecting and conserving the environment and ensuring that the earth and living beings are not harmed. Additionally, in Surah Al-A'raf, verse 31, Allah advises, 'And eat and drink, but do not be excessive,' which indicates that people should use natural resources judiciously and avoid wastefulness. Moreover, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 164, signs of Allah in creation are pointed out: 'Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.' These verses encourage us to reflect on the natural world and realize the ugliness of its destruction and deterioration. Thus, the Quran reminds us that we should be proponents of health and environmental protection and act according to ethical principles so that the earth, plants, and animals may continue to thrive.
And there is no creature on earth nor a bird that flies with its wings but that they are communities like you. We have enumerated them in a Book; and everything will come to its Lord on the Day of Resurrection.
And eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like the excessive.
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.
One day, a young man named Amir was contemplating the nature and beauty of the earth. He always recalled the verses of the Quran and realized the importance of preserving the earth and nature. One day, he went to the forest with his friends and started picking up litter, saying, 'We owe it to nature, and we must serve it.' Others were inspired and decided to protect the environment for a better future.
