In the Holy Quran, the concepts of patience and endurance are clearly articulated. Patience refers to the ability to control one's emotions and behavior when facing difficulties and adversities. In various verses, Allah instructs the believers to be patient in the face of challenges and to gain from His divine support. For instance, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 153, it states: 'O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.' This verse illustrates that patience involves strength and resilience during tough times. It means that a patient person maintains their spirit and hope without breaking under pressure. On the other hand, endurance implies accepting challenges and hardships without complaining or protest. Endurance means that a person continues to cope with the situation calmly and silently, relying on Allah for alleviation without any delay. In daily life, patience might manifest when battling specific pressures, like economic crises or emotional upheavals, while endurance relates to the acceptance of ongoing conditions even when they are unpleasant. Therefore, we can conclude that patience requires effort and active engagement in overcoming challenges, whereas endurance leans more towards passive acceptance of undesirable situations. Each concept holds specific importance in the Quran, but there are clear operational differences in how we should address life's challenges and difficulties.
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
And those who strive for Us We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.
