Lying is one of the gravest sins that damages trust and social relationships.
In the Holy Quran, Allah strongly emphasizes the importance of honesty and truthfulness, considering lying as one of the gravest sins. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 42, Allah says: "And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it]." This verse illustrates that sincerity and truthfulness are traits of true believers. Lying is not only an act of deceit but can severely damage trust among individuals. Additionally, in Surah Aal-E-Imran, verse 61, Allah instructs the believers to refrain from spreading falsehoods and doubts. This command highlights that lying can lead to discord and turmoil. As a reprehensible act, lying distances a person from divine mercy. In Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 70, it is stated: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice." These verses affirm that truthfulness and honesty in communication with Allah and others are fundamental values. Through dishonesty, individuals not only harm themselves but also damage social relationships. Thus, it can be concluded that lying is not only against Quranic teachings but can also create numerous issues within society, ultimately leading to severe consequences for the individual in the Hereafter.
And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].
And whoever argues with you about it after [there has come] to you of knowledge, say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves; then supplicate earnestly together and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars.'
O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.
One day, Adel, a beloved young man, was walking and pondering why he should always tell the truth and not lie. He remembered one of the Quranic verses that invited to honesty and truthfulness. He realized that lying was merely an escape from problems, and as a result, after some time he decided to only move forward in his life with honesty.
