To fight pride, one must remember human insignificance compared to God and keep learning about others' weaknesses.
Pride or arrogance is one of the undesirable traits that can lead a person away from the right path. In the Holy Quran, this trait is strongly condemned. In Surah Al-Isra, verse 37, Allah states: 'And do not walk upon the earth with arrogance; indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never be as tall as the mountains.' This verse reminds humans not to walk with pride and arrogance on the earth since no one can be as great as Allah. Therefore, the first strategy to combat pride is to remind ourselves of our insignificance compared to God. Moreover, in Surah Luqman, verse 18, Allah says: 'And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly.' This verse emphasizes not belittling others and refraining from walking with pride. To combat pride, one can remind themselves that any success and acclaim they possess is a gift from God, and this perspective can lead us towards humility. When interacting with others, understanding that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses helps create healthier connections. In other words, when feelings of pride arise, instead of focusing on our superiority, we should reflect on the vulnerabilities and efforts of others and always remain in a state of learning. Engaging in such practices will help us gain a better understanding of ourselves and others, allowing us to live in society with greater humility.
And do not walk upon the earth with arrogance; indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never be as tall as the mountains.
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk upon the earth exultantly.
Once upon a time in a small village, there was a man named Ehsan who always prided himself and looked down upon others. He visited a wise person and asked, 'How can I change my prideful nature?' The wise man smiled and said, 'If you let go of despair and remember that we all share a common purpose in this world, your pride will also fade away.' Ehsan pondered the wise man's words and realized that humility and kindness towards others are the keys to freeing himself from pride.
