How can one purify oneself from envy?

Strengthening faith and appreciating blessings are the best solutions for purifying oneself from envy.

Quranic Answer

Envy is one of the negative emotions that drive individuals toward harming others and disrupts one's inner peace. In the Holy Quran, Allah provides necessary warnings about the harms caused by envy. One of the best ways to rid oneself of envy is to strengthen one's faith in Allah. In Surah Al-Imran, verse 139, Allah reminds us of His blessings and says: 'And do not weaken or grieve, for you are the highest if you are indeed believers.' This teaches us to trust in faith and divine will and to refrain from feeling regret over the achievements of others. Another way to deal with envy is through prayer and seeking forgiveness from Allah. By regularly reciting dhikr (remembrance) and keeping Allah in mind, an individual can purify their heart from this ugly feeling. In Surah Al-Falaq, Allah advises us to seek refuge with Him to be safe from the envy of others. Overall, cultivating a habit of gratitude and appreciating what we have can also distance us from envy. Through this practice, we will find that over time, envy diminishes in our hearts, making space for love and friendship.
