To empty the heart from arrogance, one should remember Allah and perceive oneself as insignificant before other humans.
Arrogance is a negative trait that prevents individuals from seeing the truth and can cause them to view themselves as superior. In the Holy Quran, Allah reminds us not to consider ourselves superior and to avoid unfounded assumptions. In Surah Luqman, verse 18, Allah says: 'And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.' This verse explicitly points out that one should stay away from pride and arrogance and act humbly toward others. To empty the heart from arrogance, the first step is to view oneself as insignificant in the sight of Allah and in relation to others. Surah Al-An'am, verse 16 states: 'And whomever Allah humiliates - for him, there is no one to honor.' Therefore, we must always remember that greatness and honor belong only to Allah, and we are nothing in His sight. Ultimately, acquiring knowledge and learning from others can also aid in our humility; as we learn more, we realize the boundless nature of knowledge and our own smallness in comparison. Therefore, studying the Quran and acting upon its teachings can be a significant step towards reducing arrogance and increasing humility in one's heart.
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
And whomever Allah humiliates - for him, there is no one to honor.
One day, a man named Ali was walking in the market and boasting about his wealth and success. Suddenly, an old man approached him and asked for his help. Without thinking, Ali disrespected him and went on. That night, he dreamt that all his wealth was worthless and that humanity and respect for others were the most important things. Ali woke up and decided to adopt humility for the rest of his life and respect others.
