To combat arrogance, one should seek humility and remembrance of God, while avoiding undesirable traits.
Arrogance and pride are traits that are strongly condemned in the Holy Quran. In Surah Luqman, verse 18, Allah warns people not to be proud and arrogant when dealing with others, saying: 'And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly.' This verse illustrates that individuals should act with humility and deference to others while avoiding self-importance. Furthermore, in Surah Al-Furqan, verse 63, Allah describes the qualities of the righteous servants who walk on earth humbly. To combat arrogance, one must remain mindful of God and acknowledge that everything belongs to Him. Reflection on the Quran and remembrance of God can assist individuals in steering clear of undesirable traits. In this regard, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 34 clearly teaches us that Satan was cast away from God's mercy due to his pride. This serves as a reminder of the negative consequences of arrogance. Ultimately, prayer and seeking forgiveness from Allah can be an effective way to distance oneself from pride. By adhering to piety and understanding that only God is great, one can easily confront and overcome both arrogance and pride.
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like every self-deluded boaster.
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth humbly, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace.
And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.
One day, a young man named Hassan attended a counseling session. He always boasted and felt superior to others. During the conversation, the counselor recited Quranic verses to him and emphasized the importance of humility. Hassan realized that his arrogance was hindering his success and decided to treat God and others with humility. From that day forward, he not only viewed himself better but also improved his relationships with others.
