Why should we avoid negative thoughts?

Negative thoughts can lead an individual toward despair; avoiding these thoughts will improve one's spirit and relationships.

Quranic Answer

The Holy Quran continuously emphasizes the importance of positive thoughts and beliefs. Negative thoughts can lead an individual toward despair and depression, impacting one’s spirit and psyche negatively. In Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 12, Allah warns the believers to avoid suspicion and negative thoughts about each other: 'O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin.' This verse underscores that actions based on negative thoughts and judgments can create turmoil. Additionally, in Surah Al-An'am, verse 32, Allah states: 'And this worldly life is nothing but diversion and amusement, and indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the true life, if only they knew.' This verse indicates that worldly life is transient and emphasizes the importance of living a positive and meaningful life. Furthermore, negative thoughts can lead to weakness in faith and hinder one’s ability to make sound decisions. Hence, by steering clear from negative thoughts, an individual can enhance their spirit and improve their relationships with others. In fact, adhering to the Quranic verses and focusing on positive thoughts can transform one’s life and lead to peace and happiness both in this world and the hereafter.
