Why shouldn't good deeds be flaunted?

To seek the pleasure of Allah, deeds should not be flaunted, as hypocrisy poses a greater danger to the soul.

Quranic Answer

In the Holy Quran, there is significant emphasis on sincerity and pure intention behind good deeds. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 264, Allah says: 'O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with [mere] words or by reproach, as one who spends his wealth only to be seen by people...' This verse clearly shows that good deeds should be performed sincerely and with the intention of pleasing Allah, not to seek the attention of others or to boast. Furthermore, in Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 51, it is emphasized that 'Indeed the believers are those who are constant in their prayer.' These verses indicate that being mindful and sincere in worship is far more important than putting on a show with good deeds. Therefore, the Quran stresses that the good acts we perform should stem from pure intentions and not be for public display. In daily life, if someone seeks recognition for their kindness, they may end up falling into selfishness and hypocrisy, which poses a great danger to the soul. Thus, acting with a sincere heart and without social display can create a deeper connection with Allah and result in blessings in both personal and communal life.
