The remembrance of God and love for others are the keys to escaping selfishness.
Selfishness is one of the challenges that individuals encounter in their lives. The Holy Quran addresses the importance of kindness to others and the avoidance of self-centeredness in various verses. One way to escape selfishness is to recognize and deeply appreciate the beauty of knowledge and understanding. In Surah Al-Munafiqun, verse 9, it states: "O you who have believed, do not let your wealth and your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah." This verse reminds us that nothing should distract us from remembering God, including love for wealth and children. When a person keeps God in mind, selfishness gradually diminishes, leading them towards goodness and benevolence towards others. Additionally, cultivating virtues such as honesty, humility, and helping those in need can also aid in overcoming selfishness. In Surah Al-Imran, verse 92, it is mentioned: "Never will you attain good till you spend in the way of Allah of what you love." This spending, even if it is small, diminishes selfishness and guides a person toward selflessness and sacrifice. Ultimately, prayer and seeking forgiveness are also effective means of combating this issue. By turning to Allah, the Most Merciful, and asking for assistance, we can overcome our weaknesses and cultivate love and empathy in our hearts. So, do not forget to remember God and love others to free yourself from selfishness.
O you who have believed, do not let your wealth and your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah.
Never will you attain good till you spend in the way of Allah of what you love.
One day, Elyas was listening to a lecture by a religious scholar. In the scholar's words, he discovered the concept of selflessness and kindness towards others. He decided to make positive changes in his life and steer away from selfishness. He first started by helping his family and friends and eventually began assisting others in his neighborhood too. With every act he performed, he felt a greater sense of happiness and satisfaction, and he found peace within himself.
