How to overcome religious obsessions?

Overcoming religious obsession requires a focus on simplicity in worship and faith in God's power. One should approach religious teachings with a sincere and tranquil heart.

Quranic Answer

Religious obsession refers to mental states that involve excessive and unnecessary thoughts about worship and beliefs. In the Holy Quran, there are principles that can help in overcoming such obsessions. One of the most important points is the emphasis on faith and simplicity in following God’s commandments. In Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 3, Allah states: 'Today, all good things have been made lawful for you.' This indicates that living a simple and good life should take precedence. It is vital to remind ourselves that prayers and supplications should be performed with sincerity and pure intention, rather than under the pressure of obsessive thoughts. Surah Al-An'am also stresses in verse 108 that we should not represent God with a language other than what He has taught us. In fact, we should approach religious teachings with a confident and tranquil heart. Moreover, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286, it is mentioned, 'Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.' So, we should not pressure ourselves with obsessive thoughts and ask God to grant us peace and free our minds from these worries.
