Lengthy acts of worship increase piety and closeness to Allah, bringing greater peace to the individual.
In Islam, acts of worship serve as a means to draw closer to Allah and receive His mercy. Lengthening worship, such as prayers, fasting, and remembrance, reflects a kind of effort and sincerity that results in greater unity with God and increased piety. The Quran instructs the believers to remain patient and steadfast in their worship. For instance, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 153 states, 'O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.' By extending worship, one can detach themselves from worldly distractions and enter a state of reflection and remembrance of Allah. Additionally, when a person dedicates more time to worship, they are more likely to receive His grace and blessings. Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 60 encourages the believers to engage in more worship in order to draw closer to God. Similarly, Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 20 emphasizes the practice of longer prayers and supplications. This verse mentions that 'Your Lord knows that you stand in prayer for less than two-thirds of the night.' It encourages the practice of consistent worship, even if it is brief, to establish a foundation of good deeds. Ultimately, lengthy worship can bring a feeling of tranquility and closeness to Allah, providing a means of cleansing the soul and attaining a higher spiritual state.
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
And those who have faith in their Lord.
Indeed, your Lord knows that you stand for prayer for less than two-thirds of the night.
On a hot summer day, Ahmad remembered the recommendations of the Quran and decided to dedicate more time to prayers and remembrance of God. He realized that by lengthening his acts of worship, he felt a greater sense of peace and the world appeared brighter to him. These changes not only impacted his personal life but also helped him become a kinder and happier person in his interactions.
