Yes, God fully pays attention to your raw and imperfect intentions, for He is aware of what is in the hearts and values sincere intentions. These intentions are the seeds of good deeds that God nurtures.
Yes, without a shadow of a doubt, Allah (God) not only pays attention to our intentions, but His knowledge encompasses everything that transpires within our hearts, even before it materializes into action or fully takes shape. This is one of the miraculous aspects of Allah's infinite power and boundless mercy – that He is aware of the slightest inclinations, nascent thoughts, and half-formed desires that cross the human mind and heart. The Holy Quran repeatedly emphasizes God's absolute knowledge, describing Him as "All-Knowing of what is within the breasts." This signifies that no intention, however raw or incomplete, remains hidden from His sight. Consider that a human being is a complex creature with internal thoughts and feelings that are constantly evolving. Oftentimes, our intentions are not entirely clear and transparent at first; they might be mingled with doubt, fear, or uncertainty. Sometimes, a good intention sparks in our mind, but we do not yet have the full path, means, or even the complete capacity to realize it. In such circumstances, could it be possible that Allah, our unique Creator, would disregard such initial and unformed intentions? The emphatic answer is "never." Due to His absolute perfection, Allah is aware of all dimensions of human existence. He knows that we are beings in a state of spiritual and intellectual development. The path of faith and servitude is a gradual one, and intentions, too, evolve from a raw state to a more refined and complete one along this journey. What is crucial is that the seeds of good intention are sown in the heart. Allah values and considers sincere and pure intentions, even if they are in their initial stages and have not yet reached the phase of action. This is Allah's vast mercy, which allows the servant to find a way to earn the Lord's pleasure even through their inner thoughts and inclinations. Intention (Niyyah) holds an extremely elevated position in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Actions are but by intentions." Although this Hadith primarily indicates that the value and reward of an action depend on the intention behind it, from the broader perspective of the Quran, even purely good intentions that do not come to fruition due to external obstacles or human weakness are still graced by divine favor. Suppose someone has a sincere intention to help the poor but, due to their own poverty or other difficulties, cannot act upon it. Allah knows this sincere intention and may reward it or at least account for it in His measure of mercy. This demonstrates God's justice and grace, showing His attention to His servants even in the initial stages of will and decision-making. Allah's attention to our raw and incomplete intentions is an immense source of hope and motivation. It means we should not despair from starting a good deed, even if we feel incapable or our ideas are unformed. Every step, every good thought, and every sincere intention taken on the path to divine pleasure does not remain hidden from Allah's sight and will not go unrewarded. He looks into our hearts, into the depths of our being, and at the measure of our sincerity and effort in the path of good. This concept also increases our moral responsibility; for we know that even our innermost thoughts and intentions are manifest before the Divine presence. Therefore, we must constantly strive to purify our intentions and guide them towards good. The Holy Quran invites humanity to contemplation and deliberation, and this contemplation often begins with initial intentions and internal questions. Allah sees and values these initial stages of thought as well. He not only knows perfect intentions but also the seeds of intentions, and He interacts with them. This demonstrates Allah's deep and comprehensive relationship with His creation. He is like a compassionate parent who encourages and values even the smallest, most imperfect attempts of their child to walk or speak. Allah deals with His servants in the same manner; He encourages our spiritual growth and development. Thus, it can be said with full certainty that Allah not only pays attention to our raw and incomplete intentions but also knows them, understands them, accepts them within His path of mercy and grace, and guides them towards perfection and purity. This hope encourages us to cultivate good intentions and to continuously strive to actualize them, even with shortcomings. This assurance gives us peace that even in our weaknesses and deficiencies, we have a God who looks upon us mercifully and assists us in our path of growth and perfection. This demonstrates divine wisdom and justice, which look beyond superficial actions to the essence of existence and the depth of human will.
Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts to conceal themselves from Him. Unquestionably, when they cover themselves with their garments, He knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
And conceal your speech or publicize it; indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And if you disclose what is in your souls or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. Then He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is over all things competent.
It is narrated that in ancient times, there lived a poor dervish who harbored a deep desire to build a mosque. He had neither wealth nor physical strength to lay brick upon brick, yet every day he would visit the empty plot of land intended for the mosque. With longing and sighs, he nurtured his pure intention within his heart, saying to himself, "Oh, if only I had the means to bring a single stone for the House of God!" Sometimes, he would find a tiny pebble and place it in a corner of the land, murmuring, "This, too, is my intention for building Your House, my Lord!" At the same time, a wealthy and powerful emir constructed a vast and magnificent mosque that dazzled all eyes. He harbored pride in his heart, believing that through this act, he had attained a high rank in God's sight. One night, the dervish dreamt that a voice from the unseen called out: "The emir's mosque has been accepted, but its full reward has been granted to the poor dervish who laid a small stone with pure intention." The dervish wondered, "How can this be?" The voice replied: "Because the emir built that mosque with pride, seeking his own name in every brick, but the dervish laid that small stone with his entire being and a pure intention for Our pleasure. And We look at intentions, not at the grandeur of constructions." This tale illustrates that Allah pays attention to the essence of a person's heart and the purity of their intention, even if their capability is small and their action is meager.
