Understanding and empathizing with others requires an open and ready heart. We should listen to their problems and support them to understand their feelings.
In the Holy Quran, the significance of empathy and understanding the pain and suffering of others is clearly stated. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286, Allah says, 'Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear,' which indicates that God tests each individual according to their capacities, and therefore, we should be sensitive to others and realize that everyone has struggles and sorrows that may not be visible to us. Furthermore, in Surah Hud, verse 47, the story of Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) teaches us that he showed understanding and empathy toward his people with patience and perseverance. This suggests that we too should look at others with compassion and strive to understand their sorrows. Additionally, in Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 32, we read that killing one person is like killing all of humanity. This verse emphasizes the value of life and our need to support one another. Therefore, understanding the sorrow of others requires us to approach them with an open heart ready for empathy, and by listening and supporting them, we can alleviate their grief. In practice, we can understand their feelings by listening to their problems and providing practical and spiritual assistance, showing that we are alongside them and share in their sorrow.
Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.
And if your Lord intended to drown them.
Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely.
One night, two friends named Ali and Reza were sitting in a park. Ali, with a sad face, said to Reza, 'My wife is bedridden due to illness, and I don’t know what to do.' Reza listened with empathy and said, 'I understand you; you will never be alone. Let’s pray together and stand by each other in this difficult journey.' Ali felt a weight lifted off his shoulders, as true friendship eased his sorrow.
