Avoiding hidden shirk requires attention to intentions and evaluation of one's actions.
The Holy Quran emphasizes the importance of monotheism and the avoidance of shirk (associating partners with Allah). Hidden shirk refers to the subtlety of associating partners with Allah in one's heart, where an individual unintentionally worships other than Allah in their actions. The first step to avoiding this state is to be mindful and introspective about one's intentions and thoughts. Surah Al-Imran, verse 30 states: 'The Day when secrets will be examined,' implying that one should pay attention to their hidden intentions. The second step is to assess actions based on what pleases Allah. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 162, it mentions that actions should only be for Allah. Finally, strengthening one’s faith and connection with Allah through prayer and worship should not be overlooked. The Quran consistently emphasizes the notion of monotheism and sincere intentions, and through prayer and seeking forgiveness, one can stay clear of hidden shirk. Surah At-Tawbah, verse 105 advises: 'And do righteous deeds,' indicating that doing good deeds with pure intentions can help in avoiding hidden shirk. Therefore, by following these teachings, one can work towards distancing themselves from hidden shirk and reinforcing monotheism in their heart.
The Day when secrets will be examined
I have been commanded only to worship the Lord of this city, who has made it sacred, and to whom belongs all things. So fear Him.
And do righteous deeds.
One day, a devoted young man named Ali went to the mosque and listened to his imam's advice. The imam spoke about monotheism and shirk. Ali learned that he should always keep his intentions pure. After realizing that some of his daily actions had hidden intentions, he began to remind himself to purify his intentions before any action. This change in his behavior led him to feel greater peace and satisfaction in his life.
